Tips for Training in the Heat

In summer, the sun is shining, the courts are scorching, your motivation for tennis is high, and you need to adapt to the conditions. As great as it sounds to play under the summer sun, the heat can quickly turn training into a desert marathon. If you do not want to melt every time you pick up your racket, here are some simple and smart tips to help you handle the heat, train safely, and enjoy the game even more.

1. Play at the right times

Avoid hours of intense sun exposure, from 12:00 to 16:00. Choose early morning or late afternoon sessions, when temperatures are milder and glare is reduced.

2. Stay well hydrated

Do not wait until you feel thirsty. Drink water before, during, and after training. If you sweat a lot, add electrolytes or isotonic drinks.

3. Light and light-colored gear

Wear light-colored, lightweight, and breathable clothing. A cap or tennis bandana and sunglasses are essential for extra protection.

4. Ice

A cold water bottle, a damp towel, or even some ice in a small bag can bring quick relief. For better cooling, place the ice on your palms or the back of your neck.

5. Listen to your body

If you feel a headache, dizziness, or extreme fatigue, stop immediately. Heat does not forgive. Taking a break is always better than exhaustion or heatstroke.
